September Wedding In Tuscany: Niklas och Natalie

Niklas and Natalie got married on September 8, 2018 and arranged a destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy. Arranging weddings abroad is not always easy, which is why they took the help of Swedish wedding coordinator Linda Jostler who, with her expertise and contacts in Tuscany, gave the couple the wedding they dreamed of. We now let the groom Niklas tell us all about his and Natalie's September wedding in Tuscany.

How did you meet?

The groom Niklas tells us: We both come from the same city in Sweden (Västerås) and have hung out in the same group of friends since we ere 17 or 18 years old. The energy end curiosity have always been there, but it wasn’t until we both moved to Stockholm that we found the courage to start dating.

Later on we had both considered getting married for a long time, and we got engaged in secret in at home. But we then arranged a “official” engagement in our home town together with our families, who didn’t suspect a thing!

Inspiration & theme

Niklas: As we planned our wedding in very good time (two years in advance) we had plenty of time to draw inspiration from different seasons and sources. We read wedding magazines, used Pinterest, read blogs and listened to podcasts. In the end we wanted a wedding with lots of green plants and nature. We wanted a rustic wedding that could suit the surrounding tuscan vineyard landscape. We chose natural colors in green and brown, coupled with old fashioned pink.

the Clothes

Niklas: Natalie searched for a dress for a pretty long time and went to many different stores. She finally decided on a romantic and slightly bohemian dress from By Malina, in embroidered fabric, with a V-neckline both front and back, and with a small train. Natalie felt that it reflected both her personality and our wedding theme.

From the start we knew that my suit was going to be blue. For a while we were unsure about what shade of blue, but in the end we found the perfect one. The bridesmaids and the groom’s men matched the couple in both colors and details.

Flowers

Niklas: We wanted the bouquet to be wild and bushy, like it had been picked in a meadow, in shades of pink, white and green. Wreaths, the corsage, the arch and the table arrangements were all going to be in the greenery of the season. We combined olive branches and eucalyptus with elements of white an pink.

Styling and accessories

Niklas: We chose accessories to match our color theme. Natalie knew early on that she wanted her hair relaxed and with a wreath of green leaves and small flowers. She wanted her make up natural, with light pink lips.

I matched my blue suit with brown shoes and a matching belt, blue socks and an old fashioned self tie bow tie. I also wore a corsage to match the bride’s bouquet, and a couple of gold cufflinks in the shape of the Millenium Falcon.

The venue

Niklas: Natalie’s mother have roots in Italy, and Tuscany is our absolute favorite holiday destination. We saw our wedding as an amazing opportunity to bring our entire family to “our” vineyard and share it with them. The atmosphere of the place is hard to describe but it is a perfect place to just feel good, find your calm and have an amazing time.

When we hade decided on Italy we contacted several wedding coordinators to find one to help us with the planning. We decided to go with Linda Jostler because we immediately liked her and her suggestions. To make sure that the place she had chosen was perfect we went there one year in advance and spent a week at the vineyard.

The ceremony

Niklas: We were a bit nervous as we hade decided to have the ceremony between the rows of grapevines. This was something that the vineyard had never tried before. But in the end the weather was with us and we could fit both wooden chairs, a podium and piano. We also had our wedding arch, which framed us in a nice way, and provided a little shade.

The ceremony contained several songs important to us and which reflects our relationship. Some were performed by a friend and some by a local duo. Our of our bridesmaids read a very beautiful poem which induced quite a few tears. Thanks to our wedding coordinator and our two toast madame's our wedding day went very smoothly and we could just relax and enjoy the moment together.

The best memory of the day

Niklas: I will always remember our “first look”. This was a very exciting moment for me as I waited for my bride. I can highly recommend the opportunity to see each other like this before the ceremony: to hug, exchange a few words and share some tears (of joy) before everything starts.

About the photographer Alessandro Chiarini,

Niklas: We really wanted a local photographer and our wedding coordinator gave us a number of recommendations. Since we wouldn’t have a chance to meet our photographer before the wedding we had to rely on photos from other weddings. We quickly fell for the work of Alessandro Chiarini as his photos reflected the feeling that we wanted our wedding day to have. To make it even better he offered to bring an assistant. We felt that would be a big plus - the more photos taken, the high level of security that nothing would be left unphotographed!

advice to others who are planning their wedding

  • Start planning in good time and use the knowledge that is already out there. Read magazines and blogs, listen to podcasts. It doesn’t really matter how you do it, but make sure you see other people’s perspectives. It is also important that you both contribute to your special day!

  • Dare to rethink. Think again and again about how you want it. We, for instance, decided to serve the cake directly after the ceremony and that was much appreciated! If you are trying to decide between having a first look shoot, a photo session after the ceremony or a golden hour shoot - choose ALL OF THEM! :D All these moments are unique and provide both amazing photos and a little moment to yourselves.

  • Make your wedding a three day wedding! This was one of the things that our friends and families appreciated the most, and you don’t get many chances in life to spend several days together with your close ones like this, just focusing of the positive feelings. It is also a great opportunity for the guests to get to know each other better. Your wedding day will go by so fast, that you should take every chance you get to make it longer!

  • We are so happy that we decided to get married abroad. If you have that option, just do it! If you are worried about how it can be done, do like we did and hire a professional wedding coordinator.
