Elegant and Romantic Summer Wedding: Clara + David
Earlier this year, in June 2019, the Clara and David got married in Sweden. They arranged a summer wedding in their hometown of Mariestad, with a day that can be described by the words "party, relaxed and personal". And oh, how beautiful their day was! Filled with love and joy, captured in photographs by photographer Linn Carlson. We let the bride Clara take over this post and tell us about the day when she finally said yes to her beloved David.
Love at first sight
Clara: David and I are "teenage lovers" and met in high school. I saw David in the corridor and thought "I want him, he's mine”. He became mine and has been ever since. 10 years later we celebrated grand with a wedding. David proposed to me when we were in Rome. He had booked a table in a nice restaurant and after a long and romantic dinner he went down on his knees and asked if I wanted to marry him.
A romantic summer wedding
Clara: It was important for us to get married in the city where we grew up and met. With my husband's profession, we often move around a lot, both in Sweden and abroad, and therefore it felt important that the wedding would be in a place which we always return to. And seeing the silhouette of Mariestad's cathedral on the other side of the water in our new summer home makes us even happier about that choice.
When choosing a party place, it was important to have a nice place that had a total solution, from the toast to breakfast the following day, and everything in between of course. It was also important for us that we could cozy up with our bridal party the night before, in order to land and recharge for the big day. In addition, it was important that the guests could sleep over and therefor be able to enjoy everything a little bit longer by having breakfast together the following day.
Clothing and styling
Clara: For my husband it went fast, and at the last second as usual, while I wanted to make the choice of bridal wear to something cozy together with my bridesmaids. I had the intention of finding a white, mermaid dress in lace. I was in three different bridal shops, then felt confident that I had found the right one.
My choice of hairstyle was simple as I wanted a simple but classic set that felt like me and was inspired by how I actually like it. At first I did not want a veil but when I tried out a long veil that reinforced the dress's silhouette, I changed completely and I am so happy about that.
Clara: I love peonies and roses so choosing flowers was easy. I wanted everything to go in the same style, bridal bouquet, bridesmaid’s bouquets, corsages, table decorations, wall decorations and so on. The color theme for the entire wedding was white, pink and green and so it was obvious that the flowers would also go in the same colors.
Clara: The ceremony was one of the two most powerful things I've experienced. So many emotion! My dad led me down the aisle to the song Heartbeats by José Gonzales. Once there, I was met by my husband who was slightly more nervous than me, I was more taken by the moment, concerned that we would now become one, for real. We had chosen music that we like, by artists we like and who described us and our love. The priest held an absolutely amazing marriage speech that had captured us and described us, our love and our lives as if she had followed every step we took from the first time I and David met. And I, who is a bit clumsy, obviously managed to miss my husband's name during the actual marriage ceremony, which caused the whole church to burst out in laughter. So the whole ceremony reflected us, as we are. It really became our wedding.
The best memories from the wedding day
Clara: One of the best memories was when we sat at the dinner table, me and my husband, together at our sweetheart table, watching all of our guests who laughed, toasted and talked. Everyone was there for our sake, to celebrate our love. And we told each other how happy we were over all these nice people, our closest circle, who we love so much it hurts. It was magical.
About the photographer linn carlson
Clara: We are so happy with Linn. She is so professional and became a friend only after a few seconds. We love that she managed to capture all the moments that can barely be captured in pictures. Everything became so relaxed and natural with her, which we are so grateful for. We chose her because I like the way she shoots and that there’s a special feeling in her pictures.
Advice to others who are planning their wedding
Clara: My tip to you is to start from you as a couple. Who are you and what do you like? You can be influenced by others but the most important thing is that you can see you through all the choices in the wedding.
