Destination Wedding in Tuscany: Christina + Stian
On June 9, 2018, Christina and Stian were married in a wonderful olive garden in Tuscany, Italy. It was a wonderful wedding with a rural and relaxed touch, photographed by Martina Lundborg. This week we are honored to take part of when Christina tells us about their wedding.
HOW THEY MET
Christina: We met 10 years ago when we both started our studies at the University of Trondheim, Norway. We got to know each other during the first weeks, but from the beginning we were just friends. After six months of getting to know each other better we fell in love. After a few years we moved to Oslo. I was going on a girl trip to Mexico, but the day before my departure Stian proposed to me - after five years as a couple. The way he did it was absolutely perfect! It was just the two of us and a good dinner with wine from Italy. I thought the nice gesture and the wonderful dinner was a gift before going to Mexico, but then he got down on one knee and gave me a ring instead! Stian and I started out as friends, and he will always be my best friend.
Christina: Our clothes for the big day was classy and simple. Stian bought an Italian suit from Oscar Jacobson that he matched with a tie and brown moccasins. I wanted my dress to look like a typical wedding dress, but not too much. It should be elegant but still a bit trendy. For that, I wanted to get some jewelry that didn't take the focus off my dress. We spent quite a bit of time finding clothes, we got a lot of inspiration in advance from Pinterest.
A CEREMONY IN THE OLIVE GARDEN
Christina: The wedding ceremony was so lovely! My brother played the trumpet together with the background music. The whole wedding took place in an olive garden. We set up white chairs and a wedding arch decorated with flowers. It was a pretty untraditional ceremony. The marriage officiant talked a lot about us, our life together and our journey. It was a very good focus to have on a wedding. Both Stian and I wrote our own vows, which we do not regret for a second.
Christina: The location we chose was very typical Italy! So beautiful, intimate and rustic. It was an unbelievably classy olive garden but it was not luxurious, but definitely had that lovely Italian charm.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER Martina Lundborg
Christina: Martina is one of the most beautiful people I have met! An incredibly smart and talented photographer, but also a person that I had good personal chemistry with. Martina and her partner William surprised us with putting together a video of the wedding, and we are so grateful to have received a video from our fantastic day. Pictures and videos are so valuable to have afterwards, I can't recommend it enough! I signed up for a competition Martina had, which is why I got to enjoy her as a photographer. So glad I got that chance!
Christina: Our theme was our journey as a couple. We had set the tables along our relationship from 2011 to 2018, with pictures from our years together as table decoration. We also had a clipboard with pictures from our social media over the years: everything from Facebook statuses to Instagram pictures. So fun to see what kind of weirdness you have shared over the years!
Before the wedding I was very inspired by Italy and their beautiful landscape. We are people with a minimalist taste, but at the same time something personal should be included in the decorations. Simple and neat - that was the goal of both style and execution of decoration, materials and wedding attire. A good combination of earthy tones and style!
Advice FOR OTHER WEDDING COUPLES
Choose to have a weekend wedding if possible. In this way, the guests get to know each other better, and you get a long experience of your wedding.
Make it easy and don't spend all your time on small details - it's the big picture that will count when the day has come.
Don't stress over planning, make it a fun!
