City Chic Wedding In Stockholm: Rebecca + Jesper
For this week’s love story we look back to last August, and this wonderful wedding from central Stockholm. Rebecca and Jesper got married on hip Södermalm. The couple wanted their wedding to be both city chic and timeless, and, perhaps most importantly, reflecting them as a couple. The result (among many other great things): statement accessories, beautiful city streets and endless love!
Let’s take a look at photographer Maja Brand’s glorious photos, and listen to the words of the bride, Rebecca.
Rebecca: We both felt it important that our outfits were personal and the right match for us specifically. Another requirement was that we could feel comfortable and relaxed. Carefully selected details - for both mine and my bridesmaids’ looks - were also important. My bridesmaids wore shoes from Swedish designer Jennie-Ellen and their purses were a mix of vintage and new. I wore unique pearl earrings från danish Anni Lu and sunglasses (my something blue) from Ace and Tate. I also wore a pearl embroidered purse and plain white pumps that I had already owned for a while. Jesper wore a vintage pocket watch from Swedish Louis Abel and a boutonniere from Danish Poppykalas.
Rebecca: For the entire wedding weekend we had a beautiful suite at the Hotell Diplomat, where I checked in the night before the wedding with my best friend and maid of honor (after rehearsal drinks with our friends). To wake up there on my wedding day was magical. Right before the ceremony we had a First look photo session, in the hotel park. It was an incredibly beautiful moment to meet up just before the wedding and to acknowledge the fact that soon we were going to become husband and wife. We will cherish that moment forever. Jesper prepared at a barber’s nearby together with his best man, where the got their beards trimmed, got dressed and drank rum. A nice moment.
how we met
Rebecca: We met by accident in Greece in 2010. I fell hopelessly in love with him, and have since then never looked back. We have both given each other space to do what we wanted, which resulted in that our relationship have been a long distance one. For a lot of the time we have worked and studied in different cities and even countries. We believe this has deepened our relationship and created a great foundation and trust in each other.
We got engaged in August 2013 on my parents anniversary (Jesper had planned this together with my parents). It was a very intimate moment with just the two of us, filled with champagne, candlelight, our favorite music and expressions of love. I was completely surprised, and could not have hoped for a more beautiful memory.
Rebecca: We love the area around Nytorget on the central island of Södermalm in Stockholm. We spend many of our weekends there, just walking, or sitting at a café or in a bar. That’s why it felt like the obvious choice to choose the nearby church for our wedding.
Rebecca: We held an intimate and personal wedding ceremony for our 76 guests. The moment was very emotional and we felt the warmth from being with our near and dear. I made my entrance to Beyonce’s “Halo”, played on the piano, after my bridesmaids’ had made their entrance in the church, one by one. I met up with my future husband in the middle of the isle and we walked the last steps hand in hand. Another song played on the piano was “Andante” by Jean-Yves Thibaudet. My Maid of honor also read the poem ”I carry your heart with me” by E E Cummings.
Rebecca: For me the bridal bouquet is more than a beautiful classic detail that most brides have on their wedding day. For me one of the most important things was the idea of a personal bouquet when I conceived my very own bridal look. I see the flowers as a piece of art and a possibility for a unique statement accessory. That’s why it felt right to me to contact the danish florist Poppykalas. To transport the bouquet from Copenhagen to Stockholm required minute planning, but it was among the best choices I made. I was, and still is, very happy with my bouquet.
photographer maja brand
Rebecca: We chose Maja because she has a unique style and is a fantastically warm and lovely person, who is also present in the moment. Maja’s love for every wedding couple, and her strive to create and capture very special moments is extraordinary. We are so happy that we got the chance to share our wedding day with Maja.
Advice to others
Enjoy the day and be as present as you can. Accept that things might not turn out exactly as you planned.
Chose a photographer you feel comfortable with, and prioritize to invest in a full day contract. Because photos from your entire wedding day are priceless.
On the night before our wedding we invited all our friends for rehearsal drinks. To toast in Aperol Spritz, mingle and get excited together before the big day was awesome and we also believe that it led to a more relaxed wedding day.
