Beautiful August Wedding In Trondheim: Kristin + Matias
It's Monday and therefor time for a new wedding story! This time we head up to the Arctic Circle, and over to our neighbor country Norway. Kristin and Matias got married in August 2018, in Kristin's hometown of Trondheim. They arranged a lovely three-day party together with their closest friends and family. It is a wonderful wedding with bohemian influences and wonderful nature. The bride Kristin will now take us on a journey to Trondheim to tell us all about her and Matias’ wedding, which was photographed by Matilda Audas Björkholm.
How the couple met
Kristin: Me and Matias met when I was an exchange student in Finland a few years ago. From the very beginning I was inspired by his visions and values. When the exchange year was over, I moved back to Norway, but after a year of long distance relationship we decided that it would be him and I, in the same city.
The wedding theme
Kristin: Our wedding was a very relaxed, romantic and elegant summer party in Trondheim's beautiful landscape. Our theme was bohemian-inspired with light tones, and it was important to me that as much detail as possible was handmade. The cake was, for example, made by one of my friends. We also made our own plates in birch wood, and my mother was responsible for creating the table decorations and the flower creations.
It was also very important for both of us that our wedding weekend would reflect us as people, and how we live our everyday life. We both like to spend time out in nature, so it became natural for us to use a lot of natural materials in our decoration. For inspiration for all DIY projects, Pinterest was a given source!
Kristin: We got married in the church that is in my home town. It is a wonderful wooden church, surrounded by mountains. The priest is a good friend of ours and our god children were ring bearers and some other friends presented a wonderful version of Ingebjørg Bratland's "Because I love you". The wedding was so personal and touching and there were many tears of joy. When the ceremony was over we went out of the church to a glorious confetti storm.
Kristin: My wedding dress was very light, with bohemian features. But most important of all was that it was very comfortable to wear! For me it was important that I could walk, eat and dance around in it. The dress was made of lace and chiffon, which was the perfect choice for me.
Matias wanted a blue suit to match the summer party, and we found the perfect suit in a store near where we live. He also wanted the suspenders and a bow tie in the same colors as the wedding.
A Wedding in a Norwegian mountain environment
Kristin: Since we are a Norwegian-Finnish couple who currently live in Finland, it seemed most natural to invite to a wedding in Norway, so that we could show our loved ones where I have my roots. One of the first decisions we made was that we wanted a big wedding so that everyone we love could celebrate with us. We also wanted a wedding weekend instead of a wedding day. Since many of our guests then needed somewhere to stay over the weekend, we decided to rent a whole boarding school where we and all our guests could stay during the wedding.
About the Photographer Matilda Audas Björkholm
Kristin: We chose Matilda as our photographer because of her ability to capture every moment of the day, as well as the way she works with light and colors. We had met her earlier through common friends, so we knew that we would feel comfortable in front of the camera with her as a photographer, which was important to us. We hired her for a whole day. She has an impressive way to always be in the right place, at the right time - she caught every little part of our big day. Matilda is very positive, calm and easy to deal with and we truly recommend her to other couples! The pictures we got are fantastic and we are so happy that we just chose Matilda as our wedding photographer.
The best memories from the day
Kristin: My best memory from our day is definitely the feeling of celebrating the promises I and Matias told each other. And to be around family and friends at the same time.
Advice to others who are planning their weddings
Decide which parts of the wedding are most important to you as a couple. Everything costs and it can be difficult to prioritize. Try not to be overly influenced by what everyone else says, but listen to what is most important to you.
Hire a photographer for the whole day! There are so many different parts of a wedding day, and that someone has documented all the small parts of the day in beautiful photographs, makes us remember the whole day for the rest of our lives.
Try to plan and do things in advance, so that you can relax and enjoy the last days before your wedding. In this way, you will have so much more energy on your wedding day, and you can fully enjoy it all!
