Relaxed And Intimate Wedding In The Swedish Countryside: Martina + Josef
Martina and Josef got married an August day 2018 and arranged a small wedding in the Swedish countryside at Strömma Farmlodge. With them, they had the wedding photographer Elaine Lilje who, with her beautiful imagery, has captured this relaxed and warm wedding. With a focus on the countryside feel and a simplicity of the details, the bride and groom found their theme for the day. We will leave the rest of their story to the bride Martina who will tell us more about her and Joseph's lovely day.
How the couple met
Martina: We went to the same high school and were friends for several years before we fell in love. We have talked a great deal about marriage over the years but Joseph did not think it was necessary since we loved each other and would be together anyway. But I have never been able to let go of marrying him. When I got a wonderful ring as a birthday present from him, I really felt that I wanted to arrange a wedding.
We wanted a smaller wedding with our families and closest friends in a place that suited us. We have spent some summers in Varberg, Sweden, where we have visited Strömma Farmlodge. We have always thought that it is such a nice and lovely place. When I saw that they also arranged weddings, I emailed them at once and the wedding planning started.
Martina: We wanted a quite simple wedding. Strömma is so beautiful out in the countryside so we wanted the wedding to fit in. They arranged with all porcelain and decorations with flowers. We chose to stamp our initials on the small brown paper bags with rice and petals, but otherwise we didn't do much.
Martina: We had intended to have the ceremony out in the garden but the weather stopped it. We got both sun rain and thunderstorms on our day. After an uncertain weather forecast, we did not dare to take the chance. So instead we said our I do’s in a part of the barn where the dinner was to be held.
Martina: I got a little bit nervous when it was time to put on the rings. It all felt so big and lovely. After the “victory kiss” as our son called it, we walk out of the barn to "Ain´t no mountain high enough" as husband and wife.
The choice of clothing
Martina: I didn't want a traditional wedding dress. I did not feel comfortable in the shops and found nothing I liked. By chance I went into a "regular" store where I found my dress. It was light and airy, I could both move and dance in it. Joseph tried out some suits before he found the right one. He didn't want something too dressed up and eventually chose a lovely blue suit. To that he had blue suspenders and a dark green bow tie. We both had dance-friendly shoes in brown leather. I thought it was nice that we matched our shoes.
the bridal bouquet
Martina: I think my bouquet is the most beautiful I've seen. Our toast madame made it for me and I trusted her completely. We had looked at different pictures and styles on bouquets and the result exceeded all my expectations. I wanted it to be a little bit wild and not too tightly bound. She also made a small bouquet for our daughter and corsages to Josef and our son. My grandmother had secretly searched for her fine laces, which she then had tied to the bouquets.
Best memory from the day
Martina: My best memory is probably when we sit in the back seat of the photographer's car on the way to take the portrait pictures. We drink sparkling wine and it rains rice grains from our heads as we move. From the wedding ceremony and all night, we both had a big smile on our lips. We simply couldn't stop smiling.
Om fotografen Eleine Lilje
Martina: At first we had no intention of having a photographer, but we are so happy that we chose to hire one. First, I contacted another photographer whom I had been advised about but she was already booked. But she recommended Elaine Lilje so I checked out her website and really liked the style she had. It is fantastic how Elaine has managed to catch the whole day in the nice pictures. We were both a little nervous about the portraits, but she really made us so relaxed. We jumped into her little car after the wedding, where she offered a basket of sparkling wine and snack, and we were ready for the portrait session.
