Elegant Destination Wedding In Greece: Vicky + Anthony
Vicky has roots in Crete where both her parents were born in the the city of Chania, so for her it was a great desire to get married in that particular city. When it was time to plan their wedding she suggested this idea and Anthony loved it. And so it was decided - it was going to be a destination wedding for the American couple. Today we are going to accompany them on their big day and the wedding photographer Andreas Markakis says that there was a lot to be prepared for the large wedding with almost two hundred guests. It is not easy to arrange a destination wedding for so many guests but as you can see in these photographs, the couple made it.
Greek weddings are similar to the weddings we usually see here in Scandinavia, but there are of course small differences between the cultures. We really enjoy getting this insight into other countries' traditions, and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
A Greek Orthodox tradition in weddings is the ceremony crown that has its part in the marriage program. See Vicky and Anthony’s crowns below. They are called Stefana and can be made of flowers, pearls or different kinds of metals. During the wedding ceremony, these crowns are placed on the couple's heads as a symbol of when two people promise to be together.
When it comes to beautiful churches, Greece is one of the leading countries in that category. The churches are many and they are beautiful! Even in a very small village, you can be sure that there is a small chapel there.
We must of course also take the opportunity to mention how much we love Vicky's wedding dress from Tadashi Shoji. Absolutely wonderful!
