Adventurous Elopement In Lofoten, Norway: Jamie And Christopher
What is it about Lofoten in Norway that makes it such a popular place? Well, just look at these photographs of Jamie’s and Christopher’s elopement by Nordica Photography. Lofoten is an archipelago located in the north of Norway, with dramatic mountains, sheltered bays and beaches. No wonder that tourist keeps visiting Lofoten, during summer as well as winter. The scenery is breathtaking and that was the reason Jamie and Christopher, with their adventurous hearts, chose to challenge the cold climate and elope there on a March day in 2018.
First, let’s take a moment and enjoy these photos of the beautiful landscape of Lofoten, Norway. Such a magical place!
We wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that Santa Claus is living here. It would make sense.
The engagement (So romantic!)
It’s time to let the bride, Jamie, tell us all about her and Christopher’s elopement. But first, a little background story.
Jamie: Chris and I have known each other since we were in high school. We dated for 8 years before we got engaged. The night that he proposed we were having dinner at my favorite place, a French restaurant in Philadelphia. It was a cold January night and after dinner we walked to a nearby park. Christmas lights were still strung up in all of the trees and there was snow on the ground. We sat on a park bench to talk and that’s when he pulled out a book of poetry by my favorite poet. Since we started dating, we had a specific poem that we both loved that really resonated with us. In the book of poetry he gave me I noticed that he had cut a hole in the pages. The book opened up to our poem and in the hole was a diamond engagement ring!
What inspired you when planning your wedding?
Jamie: Honestly, Lofoten did. I knew that the traditional extravagant wedding was not for us. So I started researching different locations that we would want to travel to. I had always wanted to visit Scandinavia, and Norway kept drawing me in. Once I started looking further into traveling to Norway, I found the Lofoten Islands. I even found photos of another wedding Nordica Photography shot in Svolvaer. That was it for me. I immediately sent the photos to Chris and he agreed with me. Those islands completely captivated us and there was no other option after that. Our wedding had to be there.
Okay, we must talk about the wedding dress. WOW!
The dress Jamie chose for the elopement is from BHLDN and is a wonderful piece of art. Look how perfect the pattern on the dress matches the pattern of the snowy mountain.
About Nordica Photography
Jamie: Nordica Photography was absolutely amazing. I would recommend them to anyone. From the beginning of the process they were quick with getting back to us and they made us feel like a priority. I was very nervous booking a photographer that I’ve never met who was located on another continent. But Cole kept in touch frequently, he made sure he answered any questions we had and he really helped to shape the whole day. He has a great eye for locations and is extremely talented at what he does. Once he met at us at our rorbu cabin and I got to speak with him, my anxiety over the day completely melted away. He was very professional and knowledgeable about the islands. Chris and I instantly got along with him and knew we could trust his vision for our wedding photos. He was so easy to get along with and just a genuinely good person.
I don’t think I can express enough how grateful Chris and I are to Cole and Jakob. Because we chose Nordica for our photography, our wedding day was the most special moment in our lives that we will never forget. The way it should be. Due to the weather that day and the freezing cold, it very easily could have been a disaster. Nordica made sure that did not happen.
Jamie: Our ceremony was simple since we took care of the legalities at home in the USA. It was just Chris, myself, and the photographer. The ceremony came after several hours of driving around Lofoten and taking photos in the bitter cold. We had been through it all at that point. It had snowed, there was a period of hail, and the wind ripped through us. During a particularly bad snowstorm that ruined our chances of a ceremony at Haukland Beach, Cole our photographer, managed to find a wall of ice. He had this crazy vision that we should say our vows right there on the side of the road in front of this ice wall. And he was right. The ice wall made the perfect background for our vow ceremony. It was so fitting to be standing in front of that frozen wall with Chris reading the vows we had written each other.
What's your best memories from the day?
Jamies: Chris loved finding that ice wall for our vows. That moment in the day was so powerful. The combination of the snowstorm picking up around us and everything becoming white as our vows were said to each other was more perfect than either of us could have imagined.
One of my best memories, was when Cole had us climb this mountainside. I didn’t want to do it at all. I hate heights and really wasn’t interested in climbing anything in a wedding dress and deep snow. But I trusted him, so I did it. It was brutal, I got stuck in thigh deep snow and once we reached the top the wind felt like glass going through you. It was worth it though. The view was incredible and the picture that Cole got from up there is one of my absolute favorites.
Advice to others
It is always a great value for those who are planning their wedding to get advice from others who have walked the aisle,
or in this case a snowy beach. Jamie shares her best advice and final words below, words that we totally agree with.
Thank you Jamie and Chris for sharing your wonderful day here at Sisters in Law!
Don’t go with a traditional wedding just because you feel like you have to. If that is what you want, then you should do it! But I think too many people focus on making other people happy on their wedding day, when they should be focusing on what will make themselves and their partner happy. Your wedding day is about starting the rest of your lives together. I think it’s important to make sure you’re starting that new life out exactly the way you want to.
